why do you not divide the fractions? to get a quotient? the markscheme just straight goes into it

dont you divide it when the degrees are the same?

Here it is not so obvious that the fraction is "top heavy"... but they have already shown you that it can be divided/simplified with that A

I see how they got the a = 2

but why is there a(x-1)(x+2) and the 2(x^2)+5x-10 shouldnt it be the quotient of the division where you get the A

I'm not sure what you quite mean but I'll just show you how I've gone about it & you can tell me if the mark scheme disagrees...

................. 2
x^2 + x - 2 | 2x^2 + x - 2
...................2x^2 + 2x -4
.....................0 -x + 2

(its about time I learnt latex :tongue:)

So now I have 2 - x + 2 / x^2 + x - 2

leave the 2 to one side now do partial fractions with B & C

-x + 2 / (x-1)(x+2) = B + C

-x + 2 = B(x+2) + C(x-1)

sub in 1

B=1/3

sub in -2

C=-4/3

Therefore it's ...

2 + 1 / 3(x-1) + 4 / 3(x+2)

???
Hey. Could anyone post like an exhaustive intergration list. As in all the techniques (short explanation with not much detail)

As in 1) By parts (use formula booklet) 2) Substitution (u=...)
really panic about the paper....didnt get a chance to revise as much as i wanted:mad:

best of luck to everyone taking the paper.....lets hope its easy:smile:
