    You know, as much as I hate pointless security theatre like the next guy, something about allowing knives on one's person on a flight just seems....

    Not a good idea.

    Ironically maybe the national security establishment in all their fear of bombings realised one of the few things that don't blow up are knives. Small containers of liquid are still menacing weapons, watch out bottle-feeding new mothers! XD

    On a more serious note, in an emergency situation on a plane, something like a Swiss Army knife or multi-tool could be a potentially life saving item. Cutting people free from jammed seatbelts for example.
    Haha :P Surely a job for the Stewards though? It's very rare that a plane comes down and there are people capable of freeing others, most would be unconscious dead or have broken limbs. I think the risks of people using them in an attempt to take control of the aircraft is far more serious.
