I'm scheduled for a hip arthrogram MRI, does anyone have any experience with them?

Read up a bit about the procedure online and am feeling a little scared! Just wondering if anyone has had one.

Also, is it possible to have someone with you during the procedure? Or is strictly doctors only?

I had a hip MRI a few years back. You go into the scanner feet first laying down, and your head stays outside it, it probably comes up to mid-chest/shoulders depending how tall you are. It makes a loud noise but most places give you headphones to block it out.

I don't think it's possible to have anyone with you. The radiographers are usually in a side room whilst the scan is happening, but they can talk to you via the headphones.

When I was in hospital I had two MRI scans, they're fine, not bad at all! I was actually quite excited to go in one to be honest. And because mine was to look at my whole digestive system my whole body was in there and it took ages. I'm sure yours will be all ok!

This includes an arthrogram through, which means they have to inject contrast dye into my hip joint before they do the MRI. That's the bit I'm a bit worried about! I've been researching it on the internet and now really wish I hadn't as there are loads of people commenting on how excruiating it is.

Well if it makes you feel any better I had to have a tube put into my kidney whilst I was awake, and I managed to survive that! I'm sure the injection will be fine, my only tips are don't close your eyes, don't look at the needle and just keep thinking about something really nice! It won't seem as bad then.
