OH trident is far more important than the NHS, your words not mine. The NHS is the bigger priority than poxy nukes which we won't use
You've made this claim several times but it's clearly nonsense. How could you possibly know what situation we'll be in in 20 years?

we won't use damn things, get rid of items we won't have to use or reduce them.
    Describe use them?

For me. It's a detterent so we're using it now. Just think, somewhere right now there's about 130 sailors using our nuclear detterent.

When we fire it. We stop using it as its no longer a detterent. It's teh ultimate revenge weapon.......which I won't care about becuase I, along with you will probably be dead.

Exactly, their use is as a deterrent.

We are using them. It's a deterrent. Just by existing it's doing it's job.

You do realise the French have about 300 warheads, we have 8 Missiles/40 warheads.

Close cooperation with France on defense matters.

You have to live within your means. We can't afford Trident.

Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore do not have nuclear missiles, it doesn't appear to bother them.

Good idea, let's rely on France for our security!

...and what happens if the French turn out to be unreliable allies?

Unless you address these issues there's little point in contributing to the debate is there?

ESDP is an Anglo-French initiative. European Security and Defence Policy part of the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy, now known as the Common Security and Defence Policy

What's your point? They could become unreliable in the future. You really aren't addressing that major problem.

And what happens when in a completely hypothetical example Russia decides to take military action against us, and threatens the French with nuclear attack if they intervene. France stands by, doesn't live up to its side of the agreement, to protect its people. What then? "But you promised to help us!!!"

Dependancy ultimately we would like our fate to be in our own hands not the hands of someone who at present shares similar interests.

And you can guarantee that will last? That they won't decide they no longer want a part of NATO again? That their leadership won't turn around and stop? Remember for basically all of the last millennia we were at war with the French. Is this period of peace the norm, or the exception to the rule?

We don't know and neither do you.

We have a far greater international standing - and a permanent seat on the UNSC. As has already been said, the financial point doesn't stand up. In the grand scheme of things it's not expensive.

We can afford anything within a budget of £650bn a year. Its what we choose to spend it on.

It doesn't bother them at present. We aren't planning for the present, we are planning for the next 50 years. Unless you are saying, it won't bother them in the next 50 years, the statement is worthless.

If there were cuts to the extent that we actually lived within our means then there would be widespread revolution.

The world has moved on since Suez, we are not a major power in our own right anymore.
