Admin assistant/project assistant? odds of promotion?

A job description is of a single role entitled 'project and administrative assistant.' The role involves research in a regulatory large corporate firm. I'm a soon-to-be graduate from a master's programme. It involves mailing things (like a secretary) but also involves working on projects and lots of research. The job itself requires prior expertise in the business law field. It pays 30,000 british pounds.

Is there a chance I could move up in the company, or is this strictly an admin assistant/secretarial position? It's hard to tell and I was not comfortable asking the interviewer b/c I really need a job. Help!

If you have noting else on the table it could help as a way in. I wouldn't do it for longer than a year though before finding a more relevant role to what I wanted to do.

30k secretary position? Yes please. That's like 5k an hour when you remove 'pretending to be to busy to do anything' time.

From the sound of it...it would depend on your own ambitions, but you could in time build on this experience to enter the Compliance division, other areas may also include Project/Change Management functions in Operations and possibly the Coverage teams, although perhaps more likely the Onboarding part of Coverage - KYC, Legal, Credit.

Did you mean to say it is a large regulated firm - or the work is regulatory in nature? If it's the latter then I would imagine you would be working on Volker or FATCA projects.
