Change allows small companies to compete with larger companies in a niche market.

for example many years ago when the NetBook craze hit, it gave smaller companies (eee pc) a chance to compete with larger manufacturers (hp, asus, apple) in a niche market, where the larger companies took longer to release equivalent products.

In the short run it can lead to a company gaining a monopolistic market position (Nokia early in the decade, Apple late in the decade) however in the long run a competitive market will become competitive as other companies compete and eventually the baton can pass.
