Grand Central: Moving In: HELP

(I have posted this thread on *************** aswell but I'd like as much help as I can get.)

Hey everyone. My name's Gemma and I'm moving in to Grand Central in September but last night I realised a number of problems when moving in and I hope that you fellow moving inners or you past Grand Centralers could help me.

1. Because I'm from Northern Ireland, in order to get all my stuff over, I'm taking a boat so that I can use my daddy's huge van BUT Grand Central has no parking spaces so where are we supposed to park the van in order to move my stuff into the halls?

2. In order to get the best price, I'd like to book the boats to and from Liverpool soon but I have no idea when to move in. I want to move in near the start but don't want to be the first one there. When are you lot moving in?

3. If your parents are helping you move in, how long are they staying for? I've told my parents that I don't want them staying overnight because I want to make new friends (which I can't do with my parents)- what about you guys?

4. Can we have mini fridges in Grand Central (mines a bit bigger than a mini fridge but not as big as a regular fridge)

Thanks for the help and can't wait to see you all.

Hello gemma,
im not going to be a grand centraler but i will tell you what u think anyway. I will be moving into another of unites buildings in september, For my second year at liverpool uni.

1)Parking, i dont know where people usually park but you are going to be very close to Lime street station, im sure you can park there, also im sure you will find somewhere around grand central that looks like you can park (outside a house or something??)

2)Im moving in on the 1st of september but that is early. A common date that ive heard seems to be the 9th of september so that may be your best bet.

3)hehe, i wont be having the parents problem but theres a few nice hotels that im sure you could usher them towards ( marriott hotel maybe). Other than that i have no ideas.

4)I have a feeling that we wont be allowed them, but i have heard a few people will be taking them, also ive heard a few current students say theve got them so im sure you could get away with it!!.

See you at the pub crawl maybe, Grant

hi theres bound to be like a pick up n drop off point or a staff car park or somethin like that even if its tiny, all halls have em, otherwise it'd be a nightmare for students movin in n out! im movin on the 9th sept cus thats wen my contract starts and it'll prob be my sis who drops me off but she wont be stayin! as for mini fridges im pretty sure ur allowed em, most halls allow em x

You can park outside, definatly, they just make you sign a list and you can only stay for 20 mins, but thats usually more than enough time to get everything out of a car or van.

Yeah I moved in on the.. 13th, and I was the first there, it just depends on when your other (as yet unknown) flatmates courses start/were theyre coming from etc, dont worry about it!

My parents stayed for all of.. ooh, 3 hours, we had coffee at starbucks, talked about uni a bit, then they left and wished me good luck.

Id say yes to mini fridges (or the ones you mean with the glass fronts I presume) just try sleeping with it on overnight, you may find it too loud, you can always put it in the actual kitchen thus giving you and your flatmates more room in the main Fridge freezer, either way I say do it

Hope that helps.

There is an NCP not far from Grand Central at all if a longer stay is required.

We can move in from the 9th.

If you go on the unite website and go to the Grand Central site there is a picture of a room with a mini fridge. Doubt they would show those pictures on the official site if it wasnt allowed

Yup apparently your allowed half an hour to unload all your stuff from the car/van...if they are then staying after the half an hour...there is an NCP very close by, I remember seeing it on an open day.

My tenancy starts on the 8th so will be moving in on that day! Probably mid to late afternoon to make sure im not plugging things in etc at daft oclock!

This thread is from last year so I've done my year at Grand Central. I was in flat 03. Its really nice, make sure you go to one of the lame partys (its not really a party, its just people getting a carryout) because I made so many friends there!

Oh yeah! dum de dum... didnt check the date *ahem*
Grand central homies! As a relitively scouse person, going by my local know-how (albeit a bit foggy), i think probably the best place to park is right next to grand central, it's called Renshaw Street. I think there is a big car park at Grand central though.. I think anyway..
theres no car park at grand central at all!!!!

its all double yellows but ur given 30 mins ther is ur loadin stuff in or out ur car!!!!

Incorrect, there is a car park. It's an independent car park just at the front of Grand Central so you have to pay *and* although it's right next to Grand Central, you have to walk up a hill (only about 40 seconds) to get to it which can be annoying doing it about 6 times with heavy boxes. Some of you don't have a choice however because the grand central bit where you have 30 minutes to unload only holds about 10 cars and is really busy for the first week or so!
must of changed since i was last ther!
