    He was speaking French.
I don't like this thread - far too confusing, just say the sentence in one language! I don't like mixtures.

Thought I'd post so I can subscribe to this thread. I'm currently a French language student at university, I speak English and Maltese fluently, and I can understand Italian pretty well because of the similarities it shares with Maltese and French. I'm interested in picking up Catalan over the summer to expand on my language skills, does anyone have any suggestions about the best ways of doing this?

The Teach Yourself Catalan book got me a first in my Catalan unit when I was at uni, it's an excellent place to start.

Speak some Maltese, I have no idea what it's like and I'm dying to see now.

Verdammt. Should have written, "Et maintenant je viens perdre mon stylo à encre". And now I have just lost my fountain pen. (It was down the settee.)

Venir de + infinitive means to have just done something.

Je viens de voir mon amie- I have just seen my friend.

For anyone who is interested, the equivalent in Spanish is 'acabar de'. Danish is of course more similar to the 'boring' English version, jeg har lige... 'I have just...'

I recommend A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish, which has a workbook sold separately, Practising Spanish Grammar.

Edit: Though these may turn out to be unnecessary expenses if you don't intend to go beyond A-level.

I can't. It's my phone and there's no quote button?

Just hold down on/tap the post and it should come up.
