I don't really understand your question, but it's always essayer de + verbe infinitif.

As I said, you always need the " de " or it doesn't make sense.

Je comprends

"J'ai essayé de mangé les frites mais je ne les pouvais pas finir car ils sont...."

J'ai essayé de manger les frites mais je ne pouvais pas les finir car elles étaient ...

It's " manger " because it has to be verbe infinitif, not participe passé.
" Je ne pouvais pas les finir " is just the right order.
" frites " is feminine so it's " elles " and you have to use " étaient " because you used past tenses in your sentence so you can't use the present.

You could also use " je n'ai pas pu les finir ". But as long as you use past tenses, it's fine, it makes sense

The manger was a typo!:colondollar:

Is "umzugen" even a word? I said it above but you/Ronove did not correct me

'der Umzug' aber 'umziehen' doch
They're all words, but to be honest, I associate them all with moving house.

However, interesting fact- I don't speak German fluently! I am having lots of fun reading entries in my dictionary, but I don't think I've found the word you want yet.

If we did, I dunno what would happen to the actual polyglots!

Would they have to be scheduled to do each language on a different night?

No, I'm just not that good at maths - I didn't understand half the stuff when we did it in lessons with worked solutions, let alone in a two hour exam.

Heyy fellow linguists!
Can't believe I never saw this thread before
I know upper intermediate French (finished the A2 this year) and upper beginners Italian (finished the GCSE this year) and in September I'll be studying Economics and Russian at uni (hopefully!)

Most of the time I am shockingly unaware of basic things, I went the whole of year 13 without realizing that Mrs Murphy in my sixth form was married to Mr Murphy in the maths department :s-smilie:

I remember you! You couldn't decide whether to self-teach AS Spanish or not. Might I inquire what conclusion you came to?
