I've been offered a catered ensuit place at Ancaster Hall but from the very few pictures of it there are online it looks very different from the type of hall I'd been hoping for. I know that sounds superficial but the amazing buildings contributed to why I loved Nottingham so much! Has anyone seen Ancaster Hall or does anyone know anything about the types of people there?
Would greatly appreciate any advice!

Hi,
I emailed Nottingham a year ago when I applied asking how to change. I got this: [/SIZE]
Those are literally the only 2 reasons. Honestly, most of the halls look the same. All are post-war retro style (except for the newer parts of Ancaster, Cavendish and Willoughby). I was like you guys/girls, getting anxious because I couldn't pick a hall, but i'm so glad they do this.
Before the mixed random hall system Nottingham used to be like Durham/ST Andrews/Bristol in the sense that you would get people who already know each other apply to the same hall/college (usually public school kids). This left comprehensive/state school kids feeling isolated. The system now is really good, this elitism has been removed.
I wanted Cavendish so bad, but got Rutland in the end. Although I love Cavendish (it's the lively hall of the West campus pretty much, all Ancastarians/Willoughboobies/BroadgateParkers seem to fluctuate in there) i've also grown to love Rutland. We get a lot of banter here, it's fun. I'd say Lenton and Wortley is the lively hall for the north side of the campus, and Cripps for the middle of the campus. But anyway - it's the people that matter. And with the good mix Nottingham provide, you'll love it. I promise! -

Ancaster is not the prettiest hall and the ensuite rooms tend to be quite small, but is quite large so you should be able to find like-minded people staying there.
You have the option to reject your offer of a place here, but you will then be allocated another random hall. Ancaster, Cavendish and Rutland have the most ensuite rooms, but all halls (except Nightingale I think) have some ensuites so you could be anywhere.
If you accept this place, but then find you are very unhappy when you are there, you may apply for a transfer, but this will again to be to another random hall that has places and you may have to wait until a room becomes available.
Ancaster is only a short walk from the gym and sports centre and only about 10-15mins walk from Portland at the centre of campus.
Dont forget, it is the people that make a hall a great place to be rather than the building itself so I wouldn't worry too much. -

I wouldn't worry about the type of people staying in Ancaster as allocations are randomn and therefore you should have a completely random mix of people.

Me too
No idea what it's like though, would be useful to know what people thought when they looked round/current students there -

I'm in Sherwood at the moment, single study. It's nice, it feels like quite a small hall because it's split into 2 quads. The warden's nice, he's got the most adorable 3 year old daughter who always runs around in dinner :3 Food's okay, normally nice and there's plenty of variety, we petitioned the JCR to get more interesting dinners and they obliged

also what's the general feel of the hall- if it's quite small is everyone really close? I'm definitely up for lots of hall nights out!
Sorry for all the questions! -

If you have anymore photos of like the indoor parts of the halls that would be amazing; they're disappointingly few on the ground but don't trouble yourself over it
Thank you for being so helpful again -

Thankyou so much for your help! Is that a common single study room and do all of them have sinks?

Sorry for all the questions!
I say it feels small, but there's actually about 240 of usI'm in the smaller quad, and I know pretty much everyone on my floor. People tend to get on quite well. Our Karni team isn't as hardcore as some of the other halls but the rag raids and everything are still good, we have reps selling tickets for nights out and stuff each week and there's something on in town every night, plus all the hall stuff. We just had a big joint formal with 2 other halls, black tie and a sit down meal with live music and casino tables
