According to the GMC website, there are many private UK-based med schools whose graduates are not qualified to register with the GMC. What is the point of these schools and the degree? WHat can a person do with the qualification they achieve?

When you look more closely, they're not UK-based as such. They're operating from places like Belize or St Kitts and simply putting a 'campus' in London to appear to be UK-based. I would presume this qualifies you to work in the country of the host university.
