OP don't worry about specialisation... If there's no one aspect you'd really like to focus on, Most History degrees cover a period from around 300AD - modern day. If you really want to learn older stuff, most unis have an ancient and modern joint course. Again if you want a strong emphasis on modern, most have a modern history course. Otherwise you could combine courses... Art history, politics, economics, sociology and foreign languages are popular combinations with history.
History is a very broad degree and can be taken in any dorection once tou gradute - i know historians in journalism, politics, finance and law. Good luck!
