I just got back from an interview at DMU in Leicester. I spent three days there to really just got a feel of the town and find out if it was right for me.
I originally come from Ireland, so I flew over on the Wednesday.
On Wednesday night we decided to sample the nightlife, only to be matched with grave disappointment! We went to a Whetherspoons first but the sign said it closed at midnight. Disappointing, but we could live with it. Afterwards we looked for another pace to drink but NOWHERE was open. I don't know if we were looking in the wrong area or something but no pubs were open.
The following night we tried again, this time at 11 o'clock. We seen 1 bar open but it was empty. We asked the guy working if he could tell us where Bar 66 was (got recommended it earlier that day), he told us it was probably closed and that he was probably the only pub open. He wasn't far wrong.
I don't know if this was a Leicester thing, an English thing or perhaps we were just looking in the wrong area. But if someone could shed some light on the situation it would be appreciated. Over 30,000 students in Leicester and barely any pubs open?
