When is the deadline for booking examination places for the 2014 May/Jun examinations?
As far as I know, the dates for the 2014 exam cycle have not been announced. They are not on the JCQ website. It will be the first time that there have been no January exams and so it's hard to predict what will be decided. Normally it would be during March but private centres can fill up early. Fewer centres seem to be accepting private candidates and this situation may not improve when all exams are in the summer session.

How much does it typically cost per module?
Anything starting from the basic exam fee that varies according to examiner and subject but is around £15-£20 / unit up to £70-£100 for the same exam in some private centres. Shop arround. You don't have to do the exams in the same place you do the practical.

It's a sellers market and they charge what they like. Very few places offer practicals. Practicals are not readily available for all examiners and this may affect your choice of syllabus so sort out the centre before commiting to a specific examiner. Check with Duff Miller and Campbell Harris and organise your place early.

@gdunne42, thank you for your reply!

I'll keep an eye out on the JCQ website.

I'm leaning towards AQA, mainly because this is my old school's syllabus and they accept private candidates. Considering that my dad used to pay £2,500 a term for my education, i'm hoping that they're open to letting me sit exams there!

They should do good luck. It's good advice for all private candidates, ask the school where you took your exams originally - even if they don't normally accept private candidates they will often help a former student and won't rip you off.
