I think the US is feeding to NK's insanity precisely because they want the NK to keep doing that - spew forth rhetoric with no backing and not actually do something. They know that NK is a delinquent little state who seeks attention everytime, and by giving them attention NK will continue to throw hissy fits but not do anymore. If the US started ignoring NK then NK might do something which will cause a crisis to get world attention, e.g. start shelling random islands again. And this time, since SK has orders to fire back, it'll lead to another full blown war.

Are you a North Korean agent?
This is incorrect.

At best, at their current capabilities, North Korean missiles can indeed reach as far as Alaska, although not the contiguous United States.

Having said that, it is confidently believed that North Korea does not yet have the capabilities to load nuclear material into their missiles.
