What year are you going into? I know many places don't really use one for the first year... My family is buying mine for second year I think. I think I'll try some out before I choose though, I'm sure someone will let me!

I've never even heard of Lane!
But then to be fair I'm a doctor not a vet, so maybe they're popular in the vet circles For general stethoscope info and comparisons between the many popular ones beststethoscopeguide.com/ has quite good guides and tables.
As full disclaimer I was consulted for feedback on some of the stethoscopes, but I think they did a great job putting together something really helpful, particularly for students. (And they don't try to sell you anything)

I have to buy a stethoscope and I can't decide between Littman or Lane. They sell the Lane ones at my uni, but I've seen a lot of vets using Littman and one of my teachers told me to get a good one that could serve even when I finish school.
Littman is well reknown, but a little more expensive. However it comes in a lot of different colors, which is a plus.
Lane is cheaper and good... so I don't know.
I believe that for veterinary medicine any normal (classic) medical scope could do...
If anybody could give me any suggestions based on experience.
Thanks in advance.
P.S.: I feel all this "getting a scope" thing is like when wands choose the wizard...

Most definitely litmann, they are one of the best producers of stethoscopes but you don’t need a fancy cardiology one, a standard one which will set you back about £80 will do the job. I’ve had mine for 6 years now, and it’s never been stolen or bitten. Mine was given to me as a birthday present and it’s lasted me that long and will last me through graduation into my first job. It’s had it’s fair share of cow poo on it, but I honestly wouldn’t want a different stethoscope.
