I'm currently deciding on which university to go to in September. A big factor in this decision is how good the mental health services are in the area.
I'd be really grateful if anybody could tell me a bit about your experience with the services in these cities. In particular I'm interested in the early intervention service although information about any of the services is helpful.
The cities are:
London (LSE area)

I live in guildford originally but stay in london for inpatient for a while and my sister is currently working in london as a mental health nurse along with lot of friends in london with service at the moment.
( i been in london , guildford, stafford and now under stoke on trent mental health service )and london is at the moment the only area specialised on much variety of area such as personality unit ,forensic unit ,OCD ward while other geneally just cover basic CMHT , early intervention ,PICU , eating disorder.
There's a lot more option there while in here up north they got to go through access team and a long referral, i was under guildford crisis team and it still take me about 3 month to first see someone ( i was on urgent list ) , then now close to 6 month i saw my psychiatrist for the first time . i have to pay about 20 quid taxi per visit to my mental health centre because they are so far away from me and no where near the town centre to get the public transport. so i guess in london at least you got location sorted out easily .
another thing is appearantly in london ( i heard this from my sister when she is working ) they strictly follow the referral time or the staffs member can be punished (fined), even the same policy is suppose to be hold anywhere in uk , they dont seems to be bother this much elsewhere .
i dont know much about service in elsewhere but maybe it is worth checking it out on nhs choice website , it show feedback from patients that been under that service . best of luck
