    Hi all,

I'd really appreciate the help if anyone can help me with this algebra and functions question.

I've attached an image of the question.
    I keep getting q = 14 and p = 21 but the actual answers are p = -7 and q = -14

    For x-2, I substituted f(2) with a remainder of 0, and I got 4p + 2q +56 =0

    For x+1, I substituted f(-1) with a remainder of 9, and I got p - q = 7

From then on I keep getting p & q wrong... Help please???

Your initial equations are correct, so you're going wrong in solving them.

Post some working, so we can see what you're doing.

    Your equations are correct
    The answers are correct

You need to look at your solving of the simultaneous equations

Post what you have done and I will look for the error

    As ghostwalker said..

    You have

    2p+q=-28
    p-q=7

    Add the equations?
