its possible, but rather sad..then again i know a few people that have gone themselves and met loadsa ppl/girls in bars and gone on to have genuine friendships with them, not really hard as long as you dont have a personality of a plank and be as charming as a dead slug.

You dont need to talk. Just have a drink. Theres nothing to say that you have to socialise.

Well I worked in a pub, and to be perfectly honest the majority of people who come in during the day time are on their own on a day off.

What's the problem with it? You get to have someone make your drink, clean up for you afterwards, nice atmosphere, you might meet someone new or bump into some old friends if it's your local.

The simple truth is however, if you're a bit 'weird' as it is you might want to look into that first, because I'd wager that's why you're putting off making any friends even if you did go to a bar alone. Try to lighten up a bit

I quite often go out on my own if none of my friends fancy it. I go into pubs where I know the staff and am probably going to see somebody I know in there, but I'm still going out on my own. I tend to smile at people a lot and if they say hello I say hiya back in a cheery voice. I take a book or a paper or my netbook but I don't always use it. Sometimes It's nice to just sit and relax in a public place.

Yup! If OP think its weird going yourself, then I think its him that has issues, no one else.

watch crazy stupid love man! Ryan Gosling will teach you all you need to know. He is a god amongst men.

Now when I'm out as talking to a girl I don't tell them any personal details about me. If I don't like what they're saying I tell them they're boring me and to talk about something else. It just works.

I used to get drunk alone in my room sometimes with vodka.

It gave me considerable notoriety amongst my flatmates and they branded me an alcoholic. But, I enjoyed it

I bet you're that slightly dodgy looking, short, chavvy asian/black guy in every club that stands on the sides, back facing the wall, drink in hand, just trying to look fierce/sexy, alone, the entire night, arms folded, bobbing his head, bertstaring every single guy.
