We have regular tutors for (in no particular order) singing (all voices), classical and jazz piano, harpsichord, organ, strings, classical and jazz guitar, recorder, woodwind, saxophone, brass, percussion and Alexander Technique. Tuition in other instruments is usually possible on request.

this is what it says on the homepage, but do any warwick students know if it is possible to take rock e guitar lessons,(not classical or jazz guitar)? I would be willing to travel once a week. so maybe coventry or birmingham are an option

from what i saw at open day music lessons cost about £26 per hour, that's abit to expensive for me but there's probably some cheaper ones. i think i'm just gonna have to find some nice student who'll teach me to play better for free.

yeah, i intend to continue playing guitar as well, would be nice to get some lessons, but as of so far I am pretty much self taught as i cant afford 26 and hour.

join bandsoc- www.bandsoc.co.uk
I've seen a few flyers around campus advertising guitar lessons in the local area, but BandSoc is definitely worth a try as I hear they give lessons, in small groups I think, but you're put with people of the same ability.

Yeah the lessons in the Music Centre are £26 (can be more) an hour, though you really don't need to shell out that much. Also you never know, you may have a guitarist living near you, so you could plead for lessons off them. I wrote on my Accommodation application form that I loved the guitar and music, and now I've got a drummer next door, guitarist opposite me, and a few more guitarists and vocalists in my hall. Its good.

has anyone had any jazz guitar lessons? i'm interested to know how they are, since some jazz guitarists are good on a scary scary level.

Yer i added that to my application aswell. I'd love to be placed next to some musicians, late night jam sessions an' all! I've been playing about 5 years now and im totally self taught. I dont know much on the theory side of things because ive never had a need to use it (or the intrest in it to be honest), but i can hold my own in the practical aspect  Wouldnt mind some lessons though, but they'd have to be lot cheaper than 26quid :/ ... if not then the easiest way of getting better is to sit down with people better than your self and play!

So are we allowed to just use the Arts Centre whenever we feel like? Or do we have to book in advance etc.?
Self-taught is the best way! Then you can do whatever you want without getting bogged down by unneccessary theory you probably won't ever need..
I hope not everyone's into Brit-Indie or is anti-American Alternative/Emo.

Im into old rock and blues as far as guitar playing goes...but will listen to anything, including Brit-Indie.

i like to play anything that's very easy, as for listening i like indie/folk/alt.country stuff, i'm not anti-american alternative but i'm not a big fan of emo, about as emo as i go is bright eyes (who i am a massive fan of)

if you put in down in your accommodation form, you're pretty much guaranteed to be in a hall full of musicians...

i wrote the word "lol" in my app....by the time i realised it was too late to press the stop button....im going to be in a hall of nerds

i wrote 'i intend to retire late at night, or early in the morning!' i am a n00b sometimes. And toomy, no debate on the word n00b. Its class.

Well at least if you're placed in a hall full of nerds you know you'll never have to worry about loud noises or other 'disturbances'...

From my quite limited knowledge of Brit music, I'd say Oasis is one of the easiest bands out there to play.
I cannot WAIT to attend my first official "gig" when I get to England! And camp out before Leeds or Reading and other legendary festivals that so far I've only been able to dream about...:p:
