I have an assessment day coming up and as part of this there is a problem solving activity. All the advice that comes up on google is for group problem solving activities, but for this assessment day they've said it breaks down into three main parts: group activity (think this is discussion), presentation, and problem solving activity.

This makes it seem like the problem solving activity will be an independent thing? Any advice/experiences on this?

Short of confirming it'll be a problem solving activity, what are you expecting from this? You haven't given any information that could possibly help anyone gleam anything more than that!

Probably they're going to give you a problem and you'll have to solve it. It doesn't sound very complicated to me to be honest.
