Hi Rach, its so nice to start chatting to some people starting the course in sept! I am so excited. Cannot believe that we have to wait til July/August to find out where we will be placed, but nevermind, I'm just glad I got a place.

What degree have you got/are you working towards?
x

Same! I'm at Newcastle uni at the minute doing biology  I'm from Doncaster but I put my placement choices as Newcastle and Lincoln - was hoping that I could live with friends that are staying up here if I get placed in Newcastle but I'm not sure what I'll do now we have to wait so long to find out! x

Are you enjoying your degree? I did Biological Sciences at Teesside Uni (graduated in Nov) and loved it, but just wanted to do something clinical as I enjoy working with people! So when I found out about this course it sounded perfect!
I put Middlesbrough as my first choice and Newcastle as my second choice, but fingers crossed we all get our first choices! I hate waiting around but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough!x
Hi everyone!

I've got a conditional offer from Hallam

Only found out in mid April though, then they sent all offer letter to the wrong address! I emailed them until they finally replied in Mid May, I made them email the offer letter to me in the end lol

Anyone else get conditional? I did a BSc Psychology with the Open Uni and they only send out a 'generic' academic reference, and Hallam are saying that I need another reference as well as this....I'm just 30 so it's a LONG time since I did my ALevels so probably can't ask one of my old teachers

I'm from Sheffield and live here too. Would love to get placed at Weston Park. I have a mortgage so would be hard if I have to live away for most of the year. But I did put Nottingham/Derby as my second choice.

Hi I'm Laura and also have a conditional placement to start in September!
I've just finished a degree in Biomedical Science at Sheffield Uni.

Just wondering what people are doing about living here next year? x

I think I am most likely to live where I am on placement and hopefully stay at s friends house when we are in uni. When do degree classifications come out?
Reply 49
I don't know about other universities but I find out mine next Friday (21st) which is pretty scary! very excited to start something new which is more practical based

Nearly there then, what is are the conditions if the offer you got? I wonder when we find out more about when we are going on placement, I hope it's pretty soon after everyone finds out there grades
Reply 51
I need to get a 2.1 ! I hope so too. I put Leicester as my first choice and sheffield as second but id preferably like to do my placement in sheffield the first year and leicester the second so I could commute. Will probably try and contact them at some point once I get my results.
Reply 52
I'm pretty sure you do your placement at the same hospital both year.
Reply 53
ok thank you. I will check once i get my results
One of my conditions was to supply another reference. I studied at the Open Uni and they only send out one, generic academic reference. So I've asked Hallam where my other reference should come from but they haven't got back to me (asked a few times too!). I'm guessing it might have to be one from work?

Did people just supply two academic? x
Reply 55
I studied at Hallam so my academic reference was done internally and other was from my work.
Hey, I have put sheffield as my top choice.. (: Once I get my results what am I required to do with finding out accommodation and all uni information, its just i'm away the day after results so want to be organised and get it all done asap.

I put my first reference as an academic one and my second as my current employment and they said both of those are fine. x

Hi, I did my first degree in Biology as at 18 I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and I found biology really interesting! After graduating with a 2:1 degree in November I decided that I wanted to study some more as I enjoyed my first degree. I knew that I didn't want to do a masters in Biology because I wanted to specialise in something more clinical (as I had previously enjoyed the anatomy modules on my uni course). I heard about this course and went to the open day at my local hospital where Sheffield Hallam had a info stand about this course for both the undergraduate degree in radiotherapy and the PGD course. The PGD course sounded perfect for me because I already had my degree in biology and because it was clinical based and at the end of 2 years you are a qualified radiotherapist.

I don't know what grades you have to have to study it at undergraduate level as I have never looked in to it but I would suggest that you get in contact with a few unis that you are interested in going to and ask their admission criteria etc.
I would say that to do Radiotherapy as a degree (and the same with other healthcare degrees such as midwifery or nursing) you have to be 100% sure that it is what you want to do because they are competitive to get in and also hard work because you are doing placements as well as work alongside, so essentially it is like having a full time job as well as assignments and exams etc. Therefore I am glad that I did Biology as my first degree because it gave me lots of options as to what I wanted to choose as a career. For example some people who were on my Biology degree course have go on to further study, one is studying dentistry, one medicine, and a few work in the pharmaceutical industry.

If you need to know anything else I will try to answer your q's.

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do
