2. Can you work out the base of the rectangle? I'm sure you can.

What about the height?

Think about the little triangle on the left. Can you find its height in terms of x?

yep I got the base of the rectangle to be 4-2x

the slanted height of the small triangle to be 2x

but I am unsure of how to he the height of the rectangle... does it involve Pythagoras? I have tried relentlessly to get the height but it;s just not working

You could use Pythagoras' theorem: x^2+ h ^2 = (2x)^2

Alternatively use some basic trigonometry: tan(60) = h / x

I have tried these but still cannot get the answer

In that case you need to post your working.

How else can people help?
