Environmental Science AQA A level.

anyone whos is currently doing environmental science course ( the easiest of the science courses) good luck next month with exams.
my question is, does anyone know of any good resource materials, books, websites for the course. i can't find any revision books anywhere (not much of a suprise tho). and i'm doing the whole A level in 1yr instead of 2 and i havn't spent much time on it so i thought i'd better do some revision.
i've already done units 1 and 2 in january so i have 4 more units to do.

so if anyone has any advice or resources please could you post back.

thanks and again good luck with any exams you lot are doing.

There's a book written by the chief examiner Kevin Byrne called Environmental Science (suprisingly!) that covers most of the course. You can find it in Waterstones

And congrats on choosing the best subject out there!

Good luck!!

yeah i've got that book. and thats the only resource material i have for the a level stuff so i was just wondering if there were any more books out there that would of any help.
and your right, it is by far the bestest of all the subjects out there. it's even better than physics and that stuff is like dynomite for the brian!

There aren't any other books for this only the Byrne Book. There is one called Environment by Chris Park from Lancaster Uni, but that is aimed more at undergraduates, but still some good stuff in it (bit highbrow though in places).
I'm doing mods 4 and 5 on Tuesday and then module 7 on Thursday.

It's a fantastic subject and I wish there was more support for it.

I love this subject! Unfortunatly I cannot carry it onto A2 because this is my last year, and to it as a one year AS subject. Is A2 as easy as AS?! Maybe it was my Geography and Biology/Chemistry background.

A2 is fairly easy, i would reccomend it to anyone doing science subjects and want some extra ucas points.

ehh??? How come you lot all find it easy? I didn't have a clue on the AS units i took this june, just some (hopefully intelligent!) guesswork.
I think it depends on the other subjects you do/levels of interest etc. I do mostly science/geography subjects, and so would find the content easier to grasp then someone who does history/law/english etc. Or so I assume. To be fair, the June modules were pretty difficult though.

Does anyone know of any good websites that could be of use to anyone doing environmental science exam next week?

There aren't really any :frown: I'm just gnna go through the spec and look at notes and textbook

maybe we could share notes on here as an extra resource?? I have LOADS on marine and agriculture modulke but am severely lacking on pollution notes if anyone's interested.

hi steph. i have no notes, all i have is the text book so if i could have a look at your notes on marine and agriculture i would owe you one big time. and if i find anything on pollution i'll send it your way.
also did you do coursework or are you doing unit 7? because i'm doing unit 7 and i don't know what i'm going to be tested on.

Go onto the AQA website. Choose CGE A levels and the subject. Choose library and you'll see it comes up with past papers. This includes Paper 7 back to 2004. Good luck.
Just been looking on my college's virtual learning environment and have a few links that may (or may not  ) be helpful:

Unit 7: http://www.offwell.free-online.co.uk/biol_sampl_cont.htm

All units, however some modules are being updated, and this is only for GCSE but some of the stuff is still very relevent: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/envsci

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/sci_tech/2004/planet/default.stm

I find the unit 7 module rather easy, which is typical because I have also submitted coursework, the examiners will take the best mark for me. Why can't the coursework be with unit 5, as I find this module rather difficult, lol. I have also done geography and biology, so learning something new for one subject is revision for another  Doing a-levels the easy way!

Thanks for those links, they were really helpful. Best of luck for the exams. Not long now til they're all over..

How did you find Paper 4 and 5?? Thought they went ok but some bits stumped me..

Hi there!
I am currently in year 11 and wondered if applied science a level and environmental science a level are suitable to be taken together?

Yes, it's great if you want to do something like ecology/bioscience/chemistry at university. The key thing with A level choicse is to make sure they relate to your degree. I do Biology, Geography and Environmental Science and they all cross over which is helpful when you revise becauses you know a lot of the stuff already  I love environmental science, it's the most interesting. Biology's my hardest but if you're doing Applied Science, you will be studying all 3 sciences so hopeflly the workload is reduced! Have fun studying them, they're both very interesting subjects
Environmental Studies A Level enables students to gain a well-informed insight into these and other environmental issues. The course focuses firstly on developing an understanding of the way that different natural cycles and events within the environment work and interrelate and secondly how human beings are making an impact on these processes and what can be done to minimize the resulting problems. The course requires some basic knowledge of chemistry, biology and physics and builds on this to give students a knowledge base from which to discuss key environmental issues.
