SSBC Cocktails followed by Downing Tribal.

Suicide Sunday was traditionally the day finallists got their exam results. Now it marks the first day of May Week and is an excuse to get very, very drunk. Lots of drinking societies run initiations on the day.

Wyverns baby!

That's in the morning (11am)- nowhere better to be. Girls in their underwear wrestling in jelly, guys eating cat food and throwing up everywhere, more chinos than you can shake a stick at. Loves it.
Are you planning on wrestling? I'm quite definately not planning on eating cat food. Besides, I'm far too much of a lightweight to join a drinking soc!

I'll be recovering from BCD mostly, then I think there's a picnic for someone's birthday?

I've never really gone in for suicide sunday in a big way, because I'm not part of the drinking soc thing. I might go to a boat club cocktails but I'm not sure. Plus it's the day after BCD and the day before the May Ball, so I have to have some time to recover my liver!

We had to change the date to the following Sunday because he wants it in college and Clare won't let anyone book gardens on Suicide Sunday. He's not got round to asking what everyone's actually doing on his birthday though.

Am doing BCD, 2 x cocktails, Clare, John's, Sidney. Probably with garden parties in between. After bumps. Will be dead.

Hardcore. I don't know if I could handle it - I'll probably just spend a lot of time getting pissed with my friends rather than proper cocktail parties. Am not cool enough to go to Suicide Sunday ritual thingies.

I always understood that as well as it being the first day after everyone's finished exams, it's also the day after Bumps finishes, and so the first day when all the boaties can drink. And then all the non-boatie societies put their garden parties on the same day so other people could join in. 'Suicide', then, purely in relation to alcohol consumption. Which some might find distasteful, I suppose.

But someone was telling me that calling it 'suicide sunday' is quite a recent thing. If so, then it's certainly caught on fast, and stuck...
I heard that it was "suicide" due to this being the day when exam results were traditionally given out, hence the far greater number than average of suicides, tall buildings being closed, and so on. It happens, its not particularly funny.

Meh - the boaties start drinking as soon as they finish racing on Saturday, and have Boat Club Dinner that evening to properly finish them off. I think Suicide Sunday was related to exam results, but I'm not sure, and nobody really cares now.

Am annoyed though, because the three garden parties I want to go to are all when I'm going to be rowing bumps

Trinity Field Club- Friday 16th 5- 10 pm at Old Fields (should be posters going up soon around college with details for buying tickets)

I can't wait for the field club garden party, we've got the Maths Society cricket match early that afternoon, geeky I know yes, but I'm sortng out refreshments, which means it's a mni-party with Pimm's all round then to the field club garden party, should be fun.
i'm going to New Hall garden party hopefully!
I've got no idea where I can go or what's on or anything...

Maybe not enough common sense, this is a discussion about suicide sunday parties, and using a search would find loads of people would have shown cases like yours have been discussed over and over.
