Why do we even have other news sources when our own public broadcasting service provides political commentary of such astounding insight?

Their ability to be simple and direct. Probably because they have nothing to talk about, but that's just my opinion.

Because they actually care about this country and speak the opinion of the electorate. They are Britains last hope.

They talk about things that matter to the public - immigration for example - and promise to take action on these problems if they come to power or finally manage to get a seat in parliament. They also don't sugar coat things, they just get straight to the point.

    Consider two things:

    1) The two most read newspapers in the UK are the Sun and the Daily Mail.
    2) UKIP is not overly concerned with the truth, and will advance its policies through whatever means necessary.

The result is this: You have a large number of people who are either very thick and/or ill informed and/or a bit racist. You then have a group of people who come along and say all the things which these people will probably like. Hey presto... you have success.

To be fair, most political parties are like that.

UKIP are successful nationally for the same reason the Mayor of London is a Conservative - they have a charismatic frontman.

They fill a neatly created gap within our political system. Not racist like the BNP or EDL but have a hardline attitude towards immigration, and close to many conservative thinkings but different in one crucial way, europe. This sort of takes away the conservative voter who disagreed with our european membership, or a misguided person who think UKIPs all about getting rid of the job steeler, without being racist (stereotyping).

The fact that alot of people are incredibly stupid and misguided helps as well. Additionally each party is soo vague with their european policy. The tabloids create a massive stur and make people think that european immigrations is a bad thing and the only thing eastern europeans do is take jobseekers, get pregnant, claim benefits, take social housing and steel peoples jobs.

The only gap UKIP have filled is the gap of a protest party which disappeared the moment the Liberal Democrats signed up to the Coalition government.

Fortunately, the UKIP Electoral strategy means they won't gain a seat in the General Election unless they significantly increase the vote share further beyond what polls predict today.

The ordinary peope have been oppressed for so long now by the politicially correct establishment that they are reaching out on anyone who speaks up for them.....and who can blame them?

the 'let them eat cake' attitude of the smug, ivory towered liberal yuppie classes I think is wearing very thin.

The appeal to limit immigration which people have only just caught is not sustainable at its current rate, their anti-PC policy to societal issues and their promises to pull out of the EU fiasco.

The problem is that I think this is just a guise under which something else is lurking. I initially got caught up in the appeal because of the above, but I've started get over the joy of finding a 'libertarian' party and looked at things more closely, and sadly I'd say they're more like a more mobilised BNP.

So are there actually any concrete numbers on the immigration totals over the past 10 years, to at least dispel the mire of questionable and contradictory statistics that have been thrown around?

Probably one of the biggest overlooked factors in their success is the failure and unpopularity of the EU.

That would be voters. The electorate is simply those who are eligible to vote.
