The tips are to read the stickies and the nutrition sticky. Nothing wrong with fatty foods so swapping it for carbs, which will probably become fat anyway if you over consume, won't help.

1 hour of cardio 4-5 times a week on machines is certainly something I can't do. It's dull, boring and demotivating. If you enjoy it by all means carry on, but weight loss is primarily diet driven. Also you thought about trying a sport, swimming, an exercise class? Something more involving will make it easier to stick with long-term. Running OUTDOORS is free and so much more pleasant. Why pay to use a treadmill?

You should seriously do some resistance training.

If you are going to be using the treadmill, plan it out with your diet. To check calories lost on the treadmill, you can use websites like http://42.195km.net/e/treadsim/
