Ca directly affects the development of root hairs and the entire root system. Since Ca is metallic and basic, so it's used for controlling the acidity of soil. Likewise sulphur is not a constituent of chlorophyll but plays an initiating role in chlorophyll development. One of theprimary roles assigned to calcium in the plant is
the key role it plays in the cell walls.

The important role of Ca is recognized in the plasma membrane. Since it is also involved in carbohydrate removal and metabolism, its deficiency can be thought to bring about stunted growth. In such a condition plants normally fail to develop and the affects of underrated growth are a necrosis at the leaf tips.
