I'm writing my first major essay at university (2000 words at Manchester) and was wondering how you go about selecting themes?
My booklet suggests 3 themes but how do you go about categorising them in a way which allows you to go into enough detail, but at the same time doesn't restrict you?
Anyone with advice PM me

That does take a while to get right! Getting enough detail without going too complex can be tricky, and it's a learning curve, I'm afraid. It helps early on if you do some general reading around a topic area first: that way you can begin to build up a sense of scope and often more specific questions for essays will pop out at you.
