Hi, I'm curious to know what causes variations in Grade Bounries in A Level Maths papers. I know that easier papers tend to hhave higher boundaries, but am unsure as to whether exam boards have to limit the percentage of candidates which are awarded an A/B... Grade in each paper.

    Thanks for any responses?

It's a very inexact science. Papers are marked and the Principal Examiners suggests where they think the boundaries ought to lie. Statistical checks are made to make sure standards have been broadly maintained. Some bartering takes place. Boundaries are set.
