I think I screwed it big time with reading the wrong statement...Anyone knows if I'm suppose to advise the Defendant and advised the Claimant instead for Opinion Writing would I fail immediately?

Was this an advice on merits or an advice on evidence? -

It's advice on merits. Is there a difference if it's on merits or evidence?
The merits ought to be the same whoever you are advising. (I believe in Father Christmas as well)
The evidence to be collected and called by each party will obviously differ. -
