DiDA has been scrapped for the new CiDA from 2012, AiDA and DiDA will still continue but will probably fade away as the years progress.
The new CiDA will be 2 units and be worth 1 GCSE, rather than the 1 GCSE per unit as DiDA was. If more than 2 units are done there will be a double qualification available soon.CiDA from 2012 has been developed from the popular DiDA qualifications, with a change of focus to emphasise creative computing. It aims to empower learners to play an active role in the digital sector rather than being simply consumers of digital content. Tailor made to meet the needs of today’s creative industries, the qualification covers imaging, creative multimedia, website development and computer game production.
The first unit, Developing Web Products, will be a 2 hour exam, it wasn't mentioned whether this was written or done on the computer. The other unit that must be done for the CiDA is either Creative Media, Artwork and Imaging or Games Making.
The new CiDA is only level 2 at the moment and will be graded A* to C like GCSE's rather than the current BTEC grading system (Distinction, Merit, Credit, Pass) that is used.
The current SPBs are now issued and are available for moderation at Dec 2013, June 2014 and December 2014 and then expire and a new batch will be released. See them here: http://www.edexcel.com/quals/cida/sp...s/default.aspx
So do you think CiDA will be a good change and now seen as a better alternative to GCSE ICT? I think so because it teaches more about creative media rather than the same old boring spreadsheets which most already know how to do.
