    Hello all,

I have a quick question about conversion rates from interns to graduate jobs in BBs,
Reading through some posts on this website, there seems to be a general consensus that 30%-60% of interns are converted depending on bank.
Putting how true this is aside, why would some interns not be converted? what would you have to do - or not do (apart from obvious) - in order to be converted?

some people say to just 'not do anything wrong' but surely then conversion rate would be higher?

    thanks

Lots of desks have no headcount.. nothing you can do about that if you get placed on a desk with no headcount (especially when you don't know this until they tell you you're not getting a grad offer on the last day..)

Headcount demands can change quickly. Plus, not doing anything wrong is harder than you think.

You can make mistakes doing even the most menial tasks if you're inexperienced, and if you make enough mistakes few people will trust you to do work again and you leave little to show for your internship --> not hired.

You might not fit in with the desk well, or be under the radar, or maybe you didn't network with the right people. If you're too quiet to put yourself out there, nobody will be able to review you properly --> not hired.

You might just be unfortunate, make a mistake that has significant consequences (very possible if you're working on materials for clients within IBD), or you might be on a horrible desk where it's hard to prove yourself --> not hired.
