I have a friend at university who is quite difficult. This person (lets call them A) is usually very fun to be around and a nice person. However, A gets very very insecure and nasty at times towards myself and our other friends (such as calling us fat, ugly etc). I dont get how one person can change so much. It annoys me as well because when A is upset because they feel insecure, my friends and I always be nice to A. Has anyone else had this issue? Has anyone got any advice?

You don't have to be nice when they are being rude. Is it hen they drink or they are just rude. If they are rude tell them to go away, or 'if you're going to be like that don't bother coming out'. they may not realise how spiteful they are being.
I had a friend who always used to be rude when drunk. it got to the stage i was horrible back, told her she had a drinking problem and i wasn't going to be around her until she sorted it out. Apparently she's better now, but i got so fed up of it i dont want a friend like that.

Tell A you can't be bothered if A is going to act like that. A can come back when A has calmed down.
