    The multiple step biochemical conversion of tripalmitoylglycerol, C51H98O6, into carbon dioxide and water forms part of the metabolic breakdown of fats to produce energy.
    a) Write a balanced equation for this conversion
    (I've done this bit)



    b) Calculate the standard enthalpy change for this conversion of one triglyceride molecule using Hess’s law given the following bond energies (in kJ/mol): C-C (347); C−H (414); C−O (360); C=O (799); O=O (498); O−H (464).

    I've worked it out to 23037 but my answer is positive. Is this correct as I am sure the oxidation of fats is an exothermic process.

    If the values are given in bond energies then you'll have to do:
