The Student Room Group

EU resident, British citizen

Hi

My son has secured offers from Edinburgh and Dundee for 2013 entry.

We have been resident in France for over 7 years.

Before that we all lived in England.

As I understand it from the SAAS site, he is eligible for his tuition fees paying by them because he is an EU resident returning to the UK

He is also eligible for a small grant from France but we can not get the help for his board and lodging from France as he will study abroad.

As we previously lived in England (he still has a British passport and citizenship) are we able to apply for maintenance grants/loans from English student finance?

Any advice welcome, thanks!
Hi Nagchampa,

Students can only receive funding from one domicile in a year so either from SFE or SAAS.

As your son will be studying in Scotland he will need to apply to SAAS for any student finance.

Hope this helps,

Thanks mark, it is quite confusing doing this from abroad!

Is it likely he will get anything other than the fees from scotland?
Hi again,

Yes it can quite a confusing business.

Unfortunately I can't advise on funding from SAAS but it might be worth having a look at their website for more info http://www.saas.gov.uk/

Thanks!
