Has anyone ever tried these purported cognitive enhancers?
If so, were there any notable effects or was it merely placebo?
    Are the safe?

I tried modafinil, but I was taking it to counteract the various cognitive **** that goes along with my depressive episodes. I don't think it actually made me smarter than normal, just less broken. Also made me less tired/more alert in general without messing with sleep more than depression was already.

Kinda want to try it again at some point, but trying to get my mood stabilisers right first.

I regularly watch a podcast called London Real and the hosts are always banging on about a nootropic called Alpha Brain which they get from Onnit labs, their sponsor. They interview Tim Ferris (author of the 4 hour work week/body/chef) in one of their podcasts and ask him about his experiences, I'm pretty sure he's used modofanil, it sounds familiar. You might want to check the podcast out and the other ones too, they interview a lot of intelligent and inspiring people.
