Peacekeeping in Darfur

There is currently a peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) so I don't understand why why it is that people say the international community ignores the situation there? I've heard people say that China would oppose further intervention and that the lack of involvement reflects power politics etc but how can this be if UNAMID does indeed exist? Does it have a very limited mandate or something? x
UN peacekeeping missions are extremely complicated. Just because there is a mission ongoing does not mean enough is being done. I'd suggest you look at the peace keeping mission in Rwanda around the time of the genocide to see some of the many issues that hamper the peace keeping process. For a UN peace keeping mission troops must be volunteered by member nations, if there is a lack of interest from the international community then objectives cannot be achieved. This is one issue amongst many, most of them to do with bureaucracy and vested interests.
