    Hello,

I wanted to ask if students hoping to start a PGCE course in September apply for student finance as a continuing student or new student? I already have a student finance reference number which I used for the last three years when I applied for student finance for my undergraduate degree. In other words, since I am applying for a new course at a new university as a post graduate does that therefore mean I have to apply for student finance as a continuing or new student?

Also, when applying for maintenance grants (and taking into account household income), will student finance ask for the income of siblings as well as parents living in the same house? Does how much a sibling earn affect a person's maintenance grant amount?

    Hi HB,

You need to apply as a new student but using your existing Customer Reference Number and student finance account. The reason for this is that your National Insurance Number is tied to your student finance account meaning that each person can only have one.

We won't ask about your siblings income info just your parents.

    Hope this helps,
    Mark-Lee

So to clarify, I would need to apply as a new student even if I apply with a paper based form?

    Thanks.

    Hi again HB,

    Yes that's correct.

    Thanks,
