Seems to get an awful lot of hate, including from me up until I watched this video. So here it is:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GacoqdKjVyE

Thinking of making one now, guess I'll just have to ignore the silly teenage posers on it.

What do you think of instagram?

    1. kinda unrelated, but.. on that video there's a button on the play bar to "watch in tape mode", and I cannot see it on any other videos, wtf

    2. I am not in complete agreement with this video and it's kinda hard to explain why.
This video sees it in the same category as facebook and twitter, where people share updates about their life. Many people agree, however other people consider it to be in the same category as 500px and flickr, where people consider themselves to be artists sharing their work.
In my opinion, by trying to fit into both these categories, it ends up being worse at both. You (generally) get nicer photos on 500px and flickr, and (generally) more interesting updates on facebook and twitter.
Personally, I keep these areas of my life mainly separate.

It's good that he recognises what instagram is strong at, because everythign else on there is bluury, tinted selective focus crap.

Slightly better pictures on 500px? What are you insane? The two are lightyears apart. 500px is for professionals and amateurs who are actually good.

Instagram is mostly for people who think placing a dodgy digital filter effect over a photo from a mobile makes it good and 'artsy'.

Instag has its place and he's named it but it's not in the same leagues as flickr or 500.

Not slighty, generally. I have seen some god-awful **** on that site, but it's rare.
I agree with what you're saying in general. The worst types are the people who, as you say, think they're being all arty, but just don't have any skill or technique. Again, there are exceptions, I've seen some quite good photographers on there.
Another one to add to the list: http://1x.com. Pretty top-notch photos imho, and their emphasis is mainly to show photos selected by a judging committee.
