If you study hairdressing at uni, I guess you can have both.

Both. Although to get better grades you do need less of a social life.

you'll remember the times which you spent making memories [socially], not the times you spent all night studying
    nevertheless, do study
but don't spent your entire life studying to continue working which may be to continue studying
bit of a waste of time if you ask me

    it's all about balance

That's definately true! I think we all need that balance but we lose that balance due to our aspirations for the future and the constant pressure. It is essential to work hard now in order to achieve things later on in life. However, our childhood is meant to be the only time we have real freedom to do whatever we want - we don't have bills or anything that our parents have to deal with. Ah I don't know things are confusing!

As an LSE student I cannot even remember what social life was. Is there a life outside of these four walls ?

Sleep and study. Mainly because I'm an introvert and don't enjoy too much socialising to begin with.

    Sleep and study.

Socialise if it benefits me, but then again, people are dull more often than not.

Why not both? Most of my mates that have gone on to go to top Russell group Uni's didn't spend their lives with their heads in textbooks, its all about moderation - we were always out on weekends and committing to sports 2/3 times a week. Do all the work teachers/lecturers set you, do all the coursework in good time and when it comes to revision, knuckle down and get a good amount of work done - if you're achieving this, whats to stop you from going out and having fun? Life doesn't revolve around academia and future employment - you need to have a good balance.

Far too many people on these forums put too much emphasis on academia and getting good grades like its a matter or life or death - you're screwed even with a decent degree in current times, you might as well have some fun in the process.

Study plus very limited social life and little sleep most days.

You can balance it between good grades and social life (65 : 35)

But if I had to pick only one, it would be a good social life. As human beings are social animals by instinct, consistently studying and not enough socialising can cause a lot of psychological problems.

Plus, there is more to life than grades, we're only here once and there's no restart button.

    Grades and sleep.

I do try to have a balance though. Even now I have so much work on and then my friends invite me out, I'll say to myself I can go if I do this much work. That way I get the work done and I can spend a few hours having fun and relieving the stress.

Sometimes I do tend to forfeit sleep. But sleep is important to be able to study effectively.
