    My first name is Ariella.

    It means "God's lioness"
lol it actually means "lion of goddess" rather than "lioness of god". In Hebrew, Ariel was obviously meant to be a male name meaning "lion of god" (ari = lion, el = god, ella = goddess).

They obviously changed it when they switched from Hebrew to Latin, so it became a girl's name by adding "a", making it just a weird sound.

Cor! I had no idea about that! I agree, my name sounds weird! And a lot of people I meet at first tend to pronounce it wrong as well, so to my friends I'm just Ari. Lol.

Apparently it was created by Blackmore from a Scottish town called Lorn, so he had a unique name for his character: Lorna Doone.

No meaning as such, but an interesting history I think!

EDIT: Just had a quick Google. Apparently it can also be derived from the male name 'Lorne', which in turn is derived from from 'Loren', referring to the laurel tree which is symbolic of honour or victory.
