I'm doing my dissertation and need a bit of help with page numbers.
I've got the main body of text in one document and the pages are all numbered (1,2,3,4 etc).
I'm coming to do all the preamble such as declarations, acknowledgements etc and i would like to keep it all in the one document. I want the preamble to be numbered ( i, ii, iii, iv etc) and the main body of text to start at page 1.
Is it possible to do this all in one document?

You can, I always find it very fiddly, should make it much simpler.
Before you try it make sure all current numbers are gone
-Click the header of first page you want numbered
-Click the Page Layout tab
-Click on 'Breaks'
-Select insert a next page as a section break.
-Go to the Insert tab
-Click the Header icon and select Edit Header.
-Deselect Link To Previous page
You should now be able different sets of numbers before and at the page you first selected the header for To make them start at number 1 and not 3 just look for the click the Page Number icon, click Format Page Numbers and select start from and put it in.
