In my textbook it says 'genes introduced to crop plants may pass to wild relatives. It is thought that this could result in less genetic variation and/or the production of less useful hybrid crops'. I don't understand how the genes being transferred from the genetically modified crops to the wild types would affect the crops, wouldn't it just affect the wild types?
