I am applying for university and it seems like I am going to firm Newcastle, though maybe Nottingham.

I have just been looking at accommodation and at internet access.
Then I looked under the terms and conditions.

    "Do not view pornographic material"

    http://www.ncl.ac.uk/itservice/conne...view/students/

    ???

Is this really expected of young university students?
Is there any other way to access the internet?

For me the material I look at for my art is highly edging on erotic themes and imagery, this would definitely effect me.

I'm sure if you explain to the techies in the IT department then all transgressions would be avoided. In my uni porn can be viewed freely.

Use a proxy, then you can view all the porn you want for "artistic" reasons.

    This can also work.

well we weren't supposed to at Bangor... but everyone did...

although my internet went mysteriously slow for precisely 1 month whilst none of my flatmates (all female) suffered the same... so I suspect that the IT dept. didn't like how much bandwidth I was using to watch porn? :dontknow:

    Google for a proxy. Simples

If they're any thing like IS down at my uni (Ill PM you if you want) they really really don't give a damn, they won't monitor you, and they're only putting this in because of bureaucracy from above

To put it in to perspective, my friend downloaded MIB 2 and MIB 3, as well as downloading a tonne of films over the weekend (All illegally)

He got a request to the uni about MIB 2 (but not 3 funnily enough), and all he had to do was go to IS, they were pretty blasé about the whole thing and said "Here's something you have to sign" when the uni site implied that there'd be strict rules

IS at our uni really really don't care what you search for. It's only when they *have* to do something, they'll do it

Just make sure you do it in your own private space, and not in the library like this fellow
