a few years a go in my first year i purchased this: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...ctID.260260600 , microsoft office for students and installed it on my laptop. I completely forgot how I did it though. Does anyone know how I'd go about getting that on my new desktop computer 3 years later? (im still a student).

Are you sure it was that, Office 365 has only been around just under 2 years. If that is the right one just follow the link, at the top it says sign in, do that look for the option to re download, probably under your previously purchased products.
