Getting accepted even if you didn't get the required grades? watch

    • Thread Starter

Hey, just thought it would be interesting to see if many people were accepted to a Uni even if they didn't get the exact grades they wanted.

I thought it might put some minds at rest.

(I dont have a story to share as I haven't done my A2s yet )

    Offer: AAB
    Attained Grades: ABC

Although it must be noted that I had registered extenuating circumstances because I got the flu during my exams.

Good thread. I was wondering this, I think I'll get BBB and my offer is ABB, not sure of my chances of getting in though!

Yeah, it really depends on the competition for the course and whether or not it's oversubscribed though.

    Institution: University of Ulster
    Subject: BSc (Hons) Computer Science
    Offer: BBC
    Attained: ACC
    Decision: Pending -> Unconditional

My decision: Withdrawn application a day later haha

A few of my friends had similar situations

    Friend A
    Institution: Queen's University Belfast
    Subject: MEng Computer Game Development
    Offer: AAB
    Attained: ABB
    Decision: Straight to unconditional

    Friend B
    Queen's University Belfast
    Subject: BSc (Hons) Social Work
Offer: Rejection after interview, normal offer is ABB
    Attained: BBB
Decision: Called a few days after results and given a place!

    Anything can happen!

Hoping someone will post here who goes to Bristol :P

I did, though I was only 5 marks off the required grade though if I remember correctly. I also had other stuff like an A in the extended project and in critical thinking which might have helped sway their decision, even though they weren't part of the offer. I study linguistics at UCL.

I haven't got my grades yet, but my tutor wrote on the first line of my report thing that my predicted grade is lower than what all the uni's want, I still got all my offers though, so it clearly didn't put them off. I think it also depends on personal experience, etc. I'm determined to get the grades, but, it looks promising even if it all goes wrong.

Do not rely on any of these stories to reassure you that you dont need to get the required grades to get into any particular University.

Each year the pressure on places is very different from the last and trying to predict which Universities might still let you in 'under the wire' based on anything that happened in a previous year is absolutely and utterly pointless.

Stop trying to convince each other that revision doesnt count because you can get into Uni by some imaginary back door. There isnt one.
