So I figure there must be loads of us doing the English literature paper this May and therefore I was wondering if we could all share some context that we have on our studied texts? It would be really helpful as I think it's hard to find relevant context!

    I am studying:
    The Great Gatsby
    Enduring Love
    Frost poetry
    Browning poetry

Anything on them appreciated! I'll set the ball rolling by saying that we got told we could use paintings etc. and we were given the example of a painting called 'The Awakening Conscience' by Holman Hunt painted in 1858 which shows woman felt guilty for having affairs but men did not showing the feelings of women during Brownings time, or at least how they were expected to feel.

    Anyone else?

For Browning I have the fact his wife: Elizabeth Barrett, when against her father to marry Browning showing he has power and dominance which could be reflected in poems such as, 'Porphyria's lover' 'My last Dutchess' and from her view, she goes against norms so 'The Laboratory' could be a connection to her power and attitude.

'The Great Gatsby' is all about the roaring twenties, so money, prohibition and class division is all connected to society and that reflects on characters like the Buchanans and Gatsby, even the Wilsons.
    Hope this helped.
