Or if it's just a myth?
I say this because, I remember watching this series called: Dating in the dark, invariably it wasn't enough to have compatible personality and chatter, and obviously body smell would have been discernible if pheremones were at play, but despite these two major factors, it came down to ultimately what they looked like, whether they were compatible in looks.
So just from this experimental dating, it seemed pheremones were a bit dud.? Are pheremones a myth, on account of this.
Have you liked the smell of people you liked?
How do we know whether pheremones actually exist? Watch

Pheromones have been scientifically proven to exist. The effects are known to be not entirely predictable.

This is weird because I was wondering this earlier. I think they exist and do have an effect, but surely they can't be essential, because otherwise relationships where there's no opportunity for pheromones to be detected as it were - like relationships that start on the internet - wouldn't form, although we know they do.
That said, if someone smells nice it's such a bonus.
