    Hi,

I am about to go in to my final nursing placement but the mentor from my last placement suggested that I needed at least one extra placement before I qualify. The problem is that I am worried that this will disadvantage me by meaning I will be applying for jobs after my student colleagues. Is it possible that my mentor on my last placement may disagree and pass me? I have a spare few weeks at the end of my final placement before the end of the course. I know where I want to work and want to apply for jobs along with my colleagues. What should I do? Should I apply for the job?

    Hiya!!

Look, mentors are people, and people will perceive you differently. You may not have got on well in your previous placement, maybe you didnt like the ward or whatever, but carry on applying for jobs. Don't get behind on your applications because of a suggestion from a previous mentor. And if god forbid you do need to stay on longer, your application will still have been received and will be kept on file.

At the end of the day, you've got to your FINAL placement, your management, so congrats!! So long as you meet the NMC requirements and just work really hard in this final placement you should be fine.
